DRMP Helps Escambia County Reduce Traffic Congestion

Escambia County needed to reduce recurring congestion and improve arterial traffic flow along N. Palafox St. and N. W Street, where eight signals over a 6.5-mile corridor were being retimed and coordinated. DRMP used Miovision Technologies’ TrafficLink and Traffic Operations solutions to analyze the corridor, identify inefficiencies, and support an Active Arterial Management approach for the county’s signal optimization project.

Using Miovision Technologies, DRMP implemented new timing plans, offset adjustments, and school-time phasing changes, along with ongoing monitoring through ATSPMs. The results included an estimated weekly savings of about 1,200 vehicle hours, around 3,400 gallons of fuel saved per week, and roughly $7 million in cumulative delay and fuel savings, while also improving progression, reducing idling, and lowering emissions.
