Amherst Traffic Signal Retiming cuts travel time 11% with Miovision

The Town of Amherst, NY, faced challenges with outdated traffic signal timing plans, which led to increased congestion and higher greenhouse gas emissions. To address this, Amherst invested in smart intersection technology from Miovision to enable more regular, data-driven signal maintenance and retiming.

Using Miovision's Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPMs), the town retimed signals on two major corridors. The results were significant, including an 11% reduction in average travel time on one route, annual cost savings of over $587,800 for drivers, and a reduction of 217 tons of CO2 emissions annually. This project by Miovision successfully improved traffic efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
