A Minitab Case Study
The City of Tyler, Texas, needed to provide essential public services while keeping municipal costs as low as possible. To support its Lean Six Sigma program, the city used Minitab Statistical Software and Quality Companion to analyze and improve processes, including wastewater treatment at the Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Using Minitab, the city’s team examined magnesium hydroxide usage, alkalinity, and pH levels to identify the cause of dosage fluctuations and determine an optimal, standardized chemical level. The analysis showed the chemical had little effect on pH or low alkalinity, allowing the city to reduce variability, maintain compliance, and save more than $79,000 on this project alone, contributing to over $5.4 million in total Lean Six Sigma savings.
