Testing the Testers i-Stone Uses Gage R&R to Reduce Variation

i-Stone Group, a Malaysia-based engineering solutions provider, needed a better way to measure and prove the consistency of its custom test equipment before delivering it to customers. Questions about accuracy were creating discrepancies between i-Stone’s inspectors and customers’ results, leading to rework costs and customer dissatisfaction. Vendor Minitab provided the statistical software used to assess measurement variation and support quality validation.

Using Minitab Statistical Software, including Gage R&R (ANOVA), Type 1 Gage Study, and Attribute Agreement Analysis, i-Stone was able to identify sources of variation, improve stability and repeatability, and act on issues through retraining and preventive maintenance. The results streamlined commissioning, improved customer confidence, and reduced rework costs by $20,000 annually. Minitab also helped i-Stone communicate performance with data, charts, and graphs, creating new business opportunities.
