Case Study: White Sands Missile Range cuts surveillance work hours with Minitab

A Minitab Case Study

Preview of the White Sands Missile Range Case Study

Surveillance Project Results in Savings

White Sands Missile Range, a U.S. Army test facility in New Mexico, needed to reduce the labor hours and cost of providing classified video surveillance for mission clients. To support the project, Minitab Statistical Software was used as the team applied Lean Six Sigma methods to analyze the surveillance process and identify bottlenecks.

Minitab helped the team map and measure a 15-step process, pinpoint non-value-added work, and use capability and bar chart analysis to guide improvements. White Sands Missile Range replaced much of the manual monitoring with automated video surveillance cameras and new standard operating procedures, reducing work hours by 47% against a 30% goal, saving an estimated $1.6 million, and improving process cycle efficiency from 10% to 19%.
