Pennsylvania State University partnered with Minitab to improve its introductory statistics course, Stat 200, which serves nearly 1,000 students each semester across more than 60 majors. The university’s challenge was to move beyond lecture-based instruction and create more opportunities for student engagement and interaction with instructors.

Minitab Statistical Software helped Penn State redesign the course around online resources and hands-on lab workshops, allowing students to collect and analyze data more actively while instructors and teaching assistants became facilitators. The new model reduced the number of teaching assistants needed by half, saving the university about $75,000 per year, while also helping students spend more time investigating concepts rather than memorizing formulas.
