NSCCHS Uses Minitab to “STaMP” Staff with Statistical Knowledge

Northern Sydney Central Coast Health Service (NSCCHS) needed a better way to help staff use statistics to improve patient care across its 11 facilities. Although the organization was collecting lots of data, few employees had the training to interpret it effectively. NSCCHS turned to Minitab Statistical Software to support its Statistical Thinking and Methods Program (STaMP) and give staff the tools to turn data into actionable insight.

With Minitab, NSCCHS built a broad training and support program that included workshops, a “Survival Kit,” newsletters, and mentoring, all focused on practical use of statistical tools. Minitab helped the team evaluate the program’s impact with run charts, Pareto charts, and boxplots, showing that staff who strongly agreed they used statistical knowledge in their daily work increased by more than 30%. The initiative also contributed to quality improvements such as reduced wound care issues and fewer inpatient blood collection and labeling errors.
