Medtronic’s Lean Six Sigma Trainees Get a Healthy Understanding of Statistics with Quality Trainer

Medtronic, a global healthcare solutions company, needed a way to give its diverse Lean Six Sigma trainees a common foundation in statistics. Because Black Belt candidates came from many functions and had widely varying levels of prior statistical knowledge, training sessions were difficult to standardize. Medtronic turned to Minitab and its Quality Trainer e-learning course to address the challenge.

With Minitab Quality Trainer, Medtronic provided trainees with on-demand lessons covering hypothesis tests, measurement systems analysis, design of experiments, control charts, and capability analysis, along with built-in tracking to confirm completion before class. The result was a more consistent level of statistical awareness, reduced anxiety for students, and more classroom time focused on applying tools rather than teaching basic statistics. Medtronic later expanded use of Minitab Quality Trainer beyond Black Belt candidates to other programs company-wide.
