For the Record Hospital Boosts Service Quality Using Data Analysis and Lean Six Sigma

India’s Corporate Hospital, a 200-bed healthcare facility in India, wanted to reduce the turnaround time for processing inpatient health records, which had grown to 55 minutes against a 40-minute target. The hospital worked with Minitab and used Minitab Statistical Software to support a Lean Six Sigma project aimed at improving productivity and lowering labor costs.

Using Minitab’s DMAIC-based analysis, the team studied the process with control charts, normality testing, capability analysis, and root-cause experiments, then implemented standardized forms, kanban cards, checklists, 5S workplace practices, and staff training. The improvements cut average turnaround time to 24 minutes, exceeding the goal and reducing process time by 18 minutes overall, while also increasing department productivity and lowering costs.
