DuPont Building Innovations: Recycling Everything but the Kitchen Sink

DuPont Building Innovations, a DuPont business known for products like Tyvek®, Corian®, and Zodiaq®, set an ambitious goal to eliminate all landfill waste from 15 manufacturing and partner sites around the world. To tackle this challenge, the team used Minitab Statistical Software to collect, organize, and analyze data across more than 30 waste streams as part of a three-year Six Sigma initiative.

Using Minitab, DuPont’s team applied DMAIC, regression analysis, DOE, and control charts to identify waste sources, improve processes, and verify product quality while reducing landfill output. The result was zero landfill waste achieved on schedule, 81 million pounds of landfill eliminated, $2.2 million earned from byproduct sales, $400,000 in cost savings, and no capital expenditures.
