Connections Health Solutions Significantly Decreases Patient Wait Times and Security Calls at Mental Health Crisis Center

Connections Health Solutions, a 24-hour mental health crisis center in Tucson, Arizona, faced serious throughput, safety, and wait-time issues after taking over management of the Crisis Response Center. Working with Minitab and its Statistical Software, the team set out to improve a high-priority adult triage process that had been triggering complaints, investigations, and poor patient experience.

Minitab helped Connections Health Solutions apply Lean Six Sigma and data analysis to redesign triage, streamline assessments, and improve staffing and patient flow. The result was a significant reduction in patient wait times, security calls, and staff injuries, along with a 225-minute decrease in median clinic door-to-door dwell time and a 6.6-hour decrease in median observation-unit door-to-doctor time.
