Committed to Kids, Committed to Quality Akron Children's Hospital

Akron Children’s Hospital, the largest pediatric health care provider in northeast Ohio, wanted to improve patient care by reducing wait times, errors, and other operational inefficiencies across the hospital. To support its Lean Six Sigma program, the hospital’s Center for Operations Excellence used Minitab Statistical Software to collect, analyze, and interpret data for improvement projects.

Minitab helped Akron Children’s Hospital identify variation, track process performance, and validate improvements with tools like control charts, charts, and statistical analysis. The results included $4.3 million in savings, over 5,760 hours of patient wait time eliminated, and more than 4,560 hours of staff non-value-added time removed, along with faster pharmacy turnaround, reduced eligibility denials, and increased sterile processing capacity.
