Banking on Efficiency How Grupo Mutual Improved Cash Flow and Reduced Costs

Grupo Mutual, a financial institution in Costa Rica, needed a better way to manage cash across its 55 branches. Each branch had to balance enough vault cash to serve customers without tying up excess funds, and the company turned to Minitab and Minitab® Statistical Software to analyze the issue.

Using DMAIC, ANOVA, control charts, and capability analysis, Minitab helped Grupo Mutual identify the optimal cash levels for each branch and implement real-time control charts to move idle cash where it was needed most. The result was a 40% increase in cash usage, a 60% reduction in remittance costs, and a $1.1 million increase in revenue, while also lowering insurance and transport risks.
