FanDuel Racing, a major US horse racing betting business, faced the challenge of minimising bet loss caused by interruptions in its microservice communications. These breaks in service-to-service communication were damaging, particularly during bet placement, and could result in lost revenue and weakened customer loyalty. They needed to bring added resiliency to their technical architecture.

Mindera collaborated with FanDuel Racing to implement an event bus architecture using Kafka. This solution provided a sophisticated, failsafe way for microservices to communicate autonomously, ensuring data flows uninterrupted with no loss of transactions. The implementation was a success, proven during the 2024 Kentucky Derby where the platform handled record-breaking numbers, including over 600 wagers per second at peak and $72.5 million in accumulative revenue handled throughout the day.
