InnovateUK, a UK government innovation agency, faced a significant challenge in advancing quantum computing technology, which was being hindered by the extremely slow, complex, and resource-intensive process of calibrating qubits. This fundamental procedure required continuous human oversight and was a major bottleneck for the entire industry. Mind Foundry was engaged to address this problem using its machine learning expertise.

Mind Foundry collaborated on the AutoQT project, using Bayesian optimisation to create automated calibration routines for quantum devices. This solution from Mind Foundry achieved dramatic results, including a 100x speed increase in a calibration routine and a 30x reduction in an entire calibration pipeline time. These optimisations, delivered across three different qubit technology types, are accelerating the development of commercially viable quantum computing hardware.
