Case Study: Serbian Weather Institute achieves reliable hailstorm defense connectivity with Mimosa Networks

A Mimosa Networks Case Study

Serbian Weather Institute links 118 launcher stations over 41 km with Mimosa

The Serbian Weather Institute faced the challenge of manually operating its anti-hail missile defense system due to an inability to establish reliable, high-speed communication links between its regional radar centers and remote launcher stations. This process was inefficient and required trained volunteers. To automate the system, they needed a secure network capable of providing at least 20 Mbps to each station, a requirement that commercial mobile networks could not meet. The vendor, Mimosa Networks, provided its portfolio of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radios to address this challenge.

Mimosa's solution, implemented with partner Red Beagle, utilized B5c, A5c/A5x, and C5c/C5x radios to create a high-performance network linking the stations over distances ranging from 10 to 41 km. The implementation far exceeded the required 20 Mbps throughput target. This successful deployment allowed the system to become fully automated in early 2020, enabling centralized control from the radar center with guidance from HD video feeds and eliminating the need for manual operation.
