A Mimosa Networks Case Study
The City of McDonough wanted to bring free Wi‑Fi to downtown and four parks while also modernizing its network infrastructure for better resilience and lower operating costs. Working with Mimosa Networks and SmartWave Technologies, the city chose a hybrid fiber-wireless approach using Mimosa backhaul radios to create a stronger, more flexible broadband foundation.
Mimosa Networks implemented a licensed backhaul ring with B11 radios and multiple B5 point-to-point links connecting city buildings and public areas. The new network delivered up to 1 Gbps backhaul, expanded Wi‑Fi capacity from about 60 devices to over 2,000 at the Geranium Festival, and supported more than 450 concurrent users downtown. It also improved reliability for city offices, enabled future public safety camera deployments, and is expected to save the city additional monthly costs by replacing leased fiber connections.
