Rand Refinery, the world’s largest single-site gold refining and smelting complex, needed to modernize its communications and meet extremely strict continuity and compliance requirements. With more than 300 employees and contractors and legacy Exchange systems that weren’t covered by offsite disaster recovery, the company required secure, searchable archiving, stronger email availability, and auditing features to satisfy governance rules (including Sarbanes-Oxley) while reducing the burden on IT.

Rand deployed Mimecast’s Unified Email Management (SaaS) for ten-year “bottomless” archiving in triple-redundant data centers, secure web access during outages, and integrated handling of fax and voicemail via email. The rollout delivered chain-of-custody eDiscovery, improved data-leak protection, and a dramatic drop in spam (from 200+ messages per mailbox daily to only a few), freeing about 0.5 TB of storage, cutting admin time, and improving compliance and remote access — all via a fast, seamless transition.
