A Mimecast Case Study

Preview of the Transnet Case Study

Transnet eradicates spam with no false positives and no quarantine folders to babysit

Transnet, South Africa’s state‑owned national transport company with over R70 billion in assets and 16,500 email users across 12 subsidiary domains, faced a complex, low‑visibility email environment. Multiple legacy mail systems left it exposed to spam, viruses and legal risk from deleted messages and disallowed attachments, while personal large attachments clogged bandwidth and administrators struggled to manage quarantines and ensure compliance with the ECT Act.

Mimecast’s converged cloud platform—deployed via a proof of concept—provided connection‑based anti‑spam/anti‑virus (ARMed SMTP), archiving, continuity and policy management. The result was eradication of spam and outbound viruses with no false positives or quarantine folders, ECT Act compliance, faster troubleshooting and email recovery, reduced management overhead and cost savings from consolidating inadequate systems.
