Reducing onsite storage and supporting a seamless merger

Birketts is a UK regional law firm that grew to 350 staff after merging with Chelmsford boutique Wollastons and faced rapidly rising email volumes. Because the firm treated email as a document management system, its traditional Exchange environment with locally attached storage was becoming overloaded, search performance and network latency were suffering, and a planned upgrade to Exchange 2010 would have required additional servers and terabytes of extra storage—issues made more urgent by the merger and need for fast, seamless integration.

Birketts moved to Mimecast’s cloud-based Unified Email Management for archiving, security and continuity, ingesting historical data and completing a weekend switchover that supported a seamless merger. The change eliminated much onsite storage, removed the need for extra Exchange servers and legacy archive products, halved power requirements, improved search performance and email continuity, and consolidated suppliers to boost resilience and simplify disaster recovery.
