South West London & St. George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) provides mental health services to 1.1 million people across five London boroughs and relies heavily on email for clinical communications and referrals. After migrating to M365, the Trust faced a sharp rise in fraudulent and unwanted email campaigns and found the built‑in protections were too basic, leaving IT teams to handle threats manually while needing cost‑effective improvements in detection, remediation and continuity.
SWLSTG implemented Mimecast Email Security, Archiving, Internal Email Protect and Continuity, which was deployed quickly and managed from a single console. Mimecast scans around 750,000 emails a month and rejects 53% of inbound messages, blocking malware, sandboxing attachments, detecting impersonation and protecting in‑email links. The result: far fewer incidents reaching M365, reduced IT workload, reliable email continuity and faster recovery and compliance support.
