Aftercare, Australia’s longest-running mental health services organisation with nearly 1,000 staff and a large mobile workforce, faced growing information-security gaps as legislative change (NDIS), rapid growth and legacy systems left it vulnerable to spam, phishing, impersonation and malware-less attacks. Consumer-grade antivirus wasn’t sufficient, so the IT team set out to modernise messaging infrastructure, improve visibility and control, and meet regulatory requirements as it moved toward cloud platforms.
Aftercare implemented Mimecast’s cloud email security and archiving—including Secure Email Gateway with Targeted Threat Protection, Cloud Archive, Large File Send and Email Continuity—using URL inspection, Impersonation Protect, DLP policies and detailed reporting to block threats (90% of incoming mail was unwanted) and standardise archiving. The deployment delivered stronger threat protection, better visibility and compliance confidence, reduced management burden for IT, improved business continuity for a dispersed workforce, and set the stage for expanded Mimecast use as Aftercare moves further to the cloud.
