Mimecast helps African Bank to manage their cyber resilience

African Bank, a South African retail bank with more than 360 branches and a digitally driven customer channel, faced escalating email-borne risks as spear phishing, ransomware and weaponised attachments (often disguised as CVs) began evading traditional defenses. With cyber security flagged as the sector’s top operational risk and the bank receiving upwards of 100 emails with malicious URLs per month, the organisation needed a specialist solution to protect customer data and limit financial and reputational exposure.

The bank deployed Mimecast Targeted Threat Protection (TTP)—an easy-to-enable add-on delivering URL Protect and Attachment Protect—without installing new hardware or software. TTP sandboxes attachments and rewrites/scans URLs in real time, scanning roughly 1,500 URLs monthly and blocking many threats before the team was even aware. The result: reduced remediation effort and operational pressure, improved targeted user awareness and training, and stronger protection of customer and employee data.
