Limpopo provincial government creates top-down security with Mimecast

The Limpopo provincial government partnered with Mimecast to consolidate the email and web presence of its 11 departments and strengthen security and continuity during the COVID-19 lockdown. The province needed a common platform to support remote work, integrate disparate email systems (Outlook and Lotus Notes), provide backups and archiving, and reduce the operational burden on IT while honoring departmental constraints.

Mimecast delivered a centralized secure email platform—including gateway protection, mailbox continuity, awareness training and productivity tools (Sync & Recover, Large File Send, Targeted Threat Protection, DMARC Analyzer)—under Limpopo.gov.za. In the most recent 12 months Mimecast blocked 6.9% of incoming mail and stopped 43,552 impersonation attacks, 18,073 malware planting attempts and 1,902 phishing attacks, significantly improving user awareness and freeing IT staff to focus on proactive initiatives.
