Growthpoint Properties, South Africa’s largest listed REIT with hundreds of retail, office and industrial assets and several hundred staff, faced a complex communications challenge after unbundling from its management company: it had no PCs, servers or dedicated offices and was relying on radio links, yet urgently needed a separate email brand, continuous communication and compliant archiving. As their footprint and threat landscape grew, targeted attacks like spear‑phishing and whaling made advanced email security a pressing concern.

Mimecast delivered a cloud-based email suite—continuity, archiving and hygiene without hardware or capital expense—and later expanded to full security (Targeted Threat Protection, Internal Email Protect, Attachment Protect). The deployment cut licensing and bandwidth costs, ensured uninterrupted access during migration and outages, enabled fast e-discovery (saving Growthpoint an estimated R75 million in a legal case), and gave the IT team confidence and resilience against evolving email threats.
