A Mimecast Case Study
Pasco County Government, a 2,000-employee local government on Florida’s Gulf Coast with about 1,500 email users, struggled to comply with the state’s Sunshine Law because its email archive relied on daily PST files burned to DVDs and stored in remote vaults. Retrieving and searching those discs for public records requests was laborious and slow, often taking weeks and generating large upfront cost estimates that discouraged requesters.
The county implemented Mimecast’s cloud-based email archiving, replacing PSTs and physical media with centralized, near-instant search capabilities. As a result, public records search times dropped from weeks to typically under eight hours, IT efficiency improved by roughly one-third, storage and hardware needs were reduced, and the county eliminated prior labor charges for fulfilling requests.
