African Bank scans 1,500 URLs every 30 days with Mimecast

African Bank, a South African retail bank, faced a significant challenge in defending against sophisticated and evolving email-based cyber threats like spear phishing and ransomware. These targeted attacks posed a major financial and reputational risk. To manage this cyber resilience challenge, the bank turned to vendor Mimecast and its Targeted Threat Protection service.

Mimecast implemented its Targeted Threat Protection solution, which included URL Protect and Attachment Protect. This easy-to-deploy add-on provided advanced defense by sandboxing attachments and scanning and rewriting URLs in real-time. The results were highly effective, with Mimecast blocking malicious files and scanning approximately 1,500 URLs every 30 days. This significantly minimized risk, improved security awareness, and often stopped threats before the bank's team was even aware of them.
