A Mimecast Case Study
A major telecommunications company discovered after rolling out Slack that employees—particularly in call centers—were storing large volumes of personally identifiable information (PII) and payment card (PCI) data in messages, creating significant compliance, data-loss and eDiscovery gaps. The company needed visibility into those risks and a way to prevent ongoing exposure and regulatory fallout.
The company deployed Mimecast Aware to uncover and investigate risky messaging behavior, run eDiscovery, and automatically scan new Slack messages for sensitive data while enabling real-time remediation and coaching. As a result they shortened the breach lifecycle by about 29 days, identified and remediated over 20,000 credit-card shares in a year, and reduced potential non-compliance costs (typical events can cost around $5.87M), improving their overall risk posture.
