V&A Waterfront expands coverage with intelligent security

Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront, the Cape Town landmark and mixed-use district, needed a security system that could scale with ongoing development while handling millions of visitors, vehicles, and events across its 138-hectare site. Working with Milestone Systems and its XProtect video management platform, the team aimed to modernize surveillance and improve safety, crowd control, and traffic management.

Milestone Systems helped V&A Waterfront expand from 900 to more than 1,300 AXIS cameras and unify AI analytics, access control, intercoms, perimeter security, LPR, and people counting into a single interface with XProtect Smart Client and XProtect Smart Wall. The result was faster incident response, real-time monitoring, better congestion and crowd management, lower bandwidth and storage needs through edge analytics, and a future-proof system that improved operational efficiency across the precinct.
