University in Uruguay Achieves High Quality Security at a Lower Cost Leveraging Existing Equipment

The School of Information and Communication (FIC) at the University of the Republic of Uruguay moved into a new 8,500 m², four‑floor headquarters with heavy daily traffic and valuable tech resources, creating many new security vulnerabilities. The university needed a high‑quality, reliable video surveillance solution to prevent internal and external theft but could not afford a costly coaxial CCTV overhaul, so the system had to integrate into the existing IT network and meet a tight budget.

Integrator Foxsys deployed Milestone XProtect Professional with Digital Watchdog, Hikvision and Vivotek cameras, virtualized on HP servers managed by Proxmox, using Cat6/PoE networking and QNAP RAID‑5 storage. The result was a cost‑effective, scalable monitoring platform with alarm/SMS alerts, advanced search and export tools, easy remote access, and fast staff onboarding (12 people trained in two days); the university avoided hiring at least four additional surveillance staff and achieved higher security and operational efficiency.
