Comunità Montana della Val Cavallina, which represents 16 small municipalities in the Bergamo area of Italy, faced a rise in petty crime that local administrations could not tackle individually. The region needed a cost‑effective, flexible surveillance solution that preserved each community’s autonomy while covering the valley’s challenging, mountainous terrain.

They implemented an IP‑based, wireless video system using Milestone XProtect® Enterprise, funded 60% by the Lombardy Region and the rest by Comunità Montana and participating towns. The open, multi‑server architecture links nine municipal operations centers to a central supervisory center, is scalable to new cameras and vendors, and has sharply reduced petty crime—enabling rapid identification of offenders and prompting more municipalities to join or expand the system.
