Case Study: Tampa Bay Downs achieves state-exceeding surveillance clarity and extended video retention with Milestone Systems (using Axis video encoders)

A Milestone Systems Case Study

Preview of the Tampa Bay Downs Case Study

Tampa Bay Downs uses Axis video encoders to exceed State-mandated surveillance standards in its Silks Poker Room

Tampa Bay Downs, a thoroughbred racetrack in Tampa, Florida, needed to meet new State surveillance rules requiring higher frame rates and resolution for its 30‑table Silks Poker Room. Rather than replace 60 legacy analog cameras or rewire the facility, the venue looked for a cost‑effective, non‑disruptive way to boost archived video clarity and meet 30 fps/4CIF requirements.

The track installed an AXIS Q7900 encoder rack with hot‑swappable AXIS Q7406 blades and Milestone XProtect® Corporate on HP servers to digitize the analog feeds, using H.264 to reduce bandwidth and storage. The solution delivered 30 fps at D1/4CIF clarity, exceeded state standards, extended archived retention well beyond the 14‑day minimum without adding storage, and maintained continuous operation through redundant, hot‑swap components.
