Pompeii Digs Deeper into the Value of Video Ready to Handle Pandemic Measures

Pompeii needed a way to better protect its 66-hectare archaeological park and manage nearly 4 million annual visitors, while also adapting to new COVID-19 safety requirements. Milestone Systems provided the Milestone XProtect video management software as the platform for the Smart@POMPEI project, integrating IP cameras, IoT sensors, drones, and other site systems into one intelligent security setup.

With Milestone Systems, Pompeii centralized monitoring, enabled remote surveillance, and generated alarms when thresholds or abnormal conditions were detected. The solution helped the park reopen safely, maintain uninterrupted oversight during staff confinement, and prevent theft and unauthorized entry; it also set the foundation for future visitor-tracking and social-distancing applications.
