Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Office gets easy-to-manage Milestone IP video surveillance for courthouse security

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in Carlisle, PA, needed to replace an outdated VHS analog system at its five-story courthouse that serves 350 staff and handles frequent public traffic and prisoner transfers. The challenge was to deploy a scalable, easy-to-use surveillance solution that could reliably monitor hallways, courtrooms, holding cells, entrances and surrounding exterior areas for both everyday security and prosecutorial evidence.

Working with Cam-Tek, the county implemented Milestone XProtect® Enterprise to manage more than 30 network cameras (Mobotix, Axis, Sony, Panasonic) over a new PoE network feeding a 15 TB server with 32 days of storage, workstations and mobile access. The system gives full, proactive control of the facility, simplifies exporting video for evidence, improves night-shift safety and inmate transfers, and has delivered strong operational benefits and ROI—partly funded by a Federal Terrorism Task Force grant.
