Molde power distribution station amps up their surveillance with Milestone solution

Istad Nett, the electricity supplier for Molde, Norway, needed to secure a centrally located power distribution station that serves hospitals, emergency services and the local community. The existing fence and legacy surveillance system could not reliably detect intruders — a cat had previously caused a short circuit and explosion that blacked out half the town and cost over €60,000 — so the utility required a scalable video solution with strong analytics, mobile access and minimal false alarms.

Triangel, a Milestone Advanced Certified Partner, installed Milestone XProtect integrated with OPAX analytics and a mix of Axis dome and thermal cameras, creating a GPS-based terrain model to distinguish people from animals and ground from airborne objects. After a six-month test the system went live in 2011, delivering reliable object classification, fewer false alarms, seamless Smart Client integration and mobile viewing, significantly improving the station’s protection and monitoring capabilities.
