Milestone XProtect® to protect the historic Swing Bridge

USS Group worked with the Port of Tyne to improve safety and security at the historic Swing Bridge in the North East of England. The existing standalone CCTV setup lacked connectivity, remote monitoring, and the ability to handle multiple video streams, while the site’s winding river location made line-of-sight monitoring difficult. Milestone Systems’ XProtect was used as the video management platform for the project.

USS Group installed cameras across the bridge and surrounding areas and implemented Milestone Systems’ XProtect Corporate to centrally manage feeds at the Port of Tyne’s headquarters. Using a wireless relay network and an open platform, Milestone Systems enabled multiple camera types, including thermal and 4K cameras, to be consolidated into one system with automatic alerts for risks and unusual activity. The result was improved operational efficiency, stronger safety and security, remote supervision from the control room, and a scalable solution that can expand with more cameras and alarms in the future.
