Case Study: City of Beverly Hills achieves scalable "total security" smart‑city surveillance with Milestone Systems

A Milestone Systems Case Study

Preview of the Beverly Hills City Case Study

Milestone XProtect® software brings 'total security' to Beverly Hills

The City of Beverly Hills needed to modernize its video surveillance as part of a "Smart City" initiative—seeking a reliable, flexible, and scalable IP-based system that would integrate with existing IT, support high-quality and legacy cameras, provide centralized remote management, and meet a 12-month archival retention requirement while protecting high-profile public areas and major events.

Beverly Hills deployed Milestone XProtect Enterprise with a mix of megapixel and analog cameras, IBM storage and tape management, and Mainline as integration partner. The system (initially 45 cameras, planned to grow toward 250+) delivered centralized monitoring for Police, Fire, Public Works and other departments, enabled remote construction and safety oversight, met retention and grant requirements, cut cabling/labor via PoE, and proved reliable and easy to scale and use—drawing interest from Homeland Security as a potential urban prototype.
