University Campus Suffolk (UCS), a new higher-education campus in Ipswich, needed an integrated security management system for its landmark Waterfront building to protect students, staff and public areas while supporting a welcoming, open campus. Facilities head Tony Russell commissioned a solution that could secure entrances, high-traffic zones and plant areas, provide remote oversight, and scale as the campus expands.

Working with partner Check Your Security, UCS deployed Milestone XProtect Enterprise as the core VMS managing 71 network cameras and Cardax access control across the building, with central recording (28-day retention), Microsoft AD integration and laptop/PC remote access via the XProtect Smart Client. The system delivered reliable 24/7 monitoring (near‑100% uptime over two years), faster incident response and more efficient staff deployment, produced cost savings by bringing ID-card production in‑house, and proved scalable and future‑proof for expansions such as ANPR and additional campus buildings.
