Nassau County Police Department sought to reduce gun violence in the Roosevelt‑Uniondale area by turning its existing Milestone XProtect surveillance deployment into an actionable, real‑time response system. Faced with rising—and often unreported—shooting incidents, the county needed a cost‑efficient way to detect, locate and document gunfire to improve response times and support prosecutions.

Working with Milestone partners ShotSpotter, the HawkEye Effect and integrator EIA, the county integrated acoustic sensors with Milestone XProtect so gunshot detections are triangulated, mapped and immediately trigger PTZ cameras to record and stream synchronized audio/video to operators and first responders. The solution provides visual verification within seconds, filters false positives, logs evidence for investigations and delivers a scalable 24/7 monitoring capability that has improved situational awareness, response speed and prosecutorial evidence.
