JFK Terminal One Upgrades to IP Video for Improved Functionality, Image Quality

JFK International Airport’s Terminal One faced an outdated security setup: a limited analog system and a separate legacy IP system that couldn’t integrate, allowed video viewing only from specific workstations, and made adding or replacing cameras difficult. Migrating to a modern IP platform was complicated by the terminal’s high-security environment, requiring all cameras and systems to remain operational 24/7 during the transition.

Security integrator Media Wire implemented Milestone XProtect Corporate VMS to manage roughly 500–600 cameras (including 160 new Axis cameras), integrated with Honeywell Pro‑Watch access control and vendor Husky NVRs via Milestone Interconnect, and supported by a 10‑Gig fiber network and nearly 1 PB of storage. The result is a unified, scalable system with mobile access, improved image quality and search capabilities, broader coverage for multi‑agency use, and faster, more efficient incident monitoring and response.
