Case Study: Katowice City achieves safer streets and smarter city monitoring with Milestone Systems

How the smart city vision has become a reality with Milestone video and IBM AI

Katowice City Hall departments for IT and Crisis Management needed a scalable way to expand its citywide monitoring system and add AI-driven analysis as the KISMiA smart city project grew. With more than 300 cameras across the Silesian region, Katowice turned to Milestone Systems and its XProtect Corporate video management system, along with IBM AI integrations, to centralize operations and better coordinate city services.

Milestone Systems implemented an open, flexible video platform with IBM Intelligent Operations Center and video analytics, enabling faster alerts, incident detection, and camera management across parks, roads, and public spaces. The result was stronger security and more efficient response, including a drop in car thefts from 337 in 2016 to 79 in 2020 and a 67.4% total crime detection rate in 2020, supported by nearly 2,500 video surveillance recordings.
