How Puerto Rico rebuilt school safety with centralized and remote video

Puerto Rico Dept. of Education (PRDOE) needed to rebuild school safety after Hurricane Maria damaged lighting and communication systems and led to more break-ins and assaults at schools. Instead of replacing separate security tools, the agency worked with Milestone Systems to create a centralized, island-wide perimeter security approach using Milestone XProtect® Corporate and Interconnect™ across public schools.

Milestone Systems implemented a solution with 10,000+ Uniview cameras in 856 schools, plus integrations with OPTEX sensors, Axis speakers, and Seneca servers. The result was 100% coverage of Puerto Rico’s public schools, faster remote verification and response, lower security costs, and a reported 97% reduction in intrusions, along with reduced theft, assault, and bullying.
