Case Study: Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities achieves smarter protection of Pompeii with Milestone Systems

How Pompeii’s visitors and cultural heritage are wisely protected

The Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities faced the challenge of protecting the Pompeii Archaeological Park’s priceless heritage and large daily visitor flow while also supporting emergency management and accessibility. To meet these needs, the Ministry partnered with Milestone Systems on the Smart@POMPEI project, using Milestone XProtect Corporate video management software as the core platform for an integrated security and monitoring solution.

Milestone Systems implemented a centralized system that connected video surveillance, access control, anti-intrusion devices, sensors, IoT devices, and environmental monitors in real time. The result was full-site visibility, automated alerts for threats and abnormal conditions, and a flexible platform that could expand with new technologies such as thermal cameras and smart bracelets; the project now supports safe management of over 10,000 daily visitors across 67 hectares and helps the park continue developing its digital infrastructure.
