Case Study: City of Genoa achieves smarter urban mobility and public safety with Milestone Systems

Genoa smart city vision evolves with the power of video AI

The City of Genoa, a densely populated smart city with unique geographic and infrastructure challenges, needed a scalable way to manage urban safety, mobility, civil protection, and public services. Using Milestone Systems’ XProtect VMS with Smart Client, Smart Wall, Smart Maps, and BriefCam analytics, the city expanded its surveillance and video-management capabilities across thousands of cameras, LPR gates, and other integrated systems.

Milestone Systems helped Genoa create an open, citywide platform that connects video, IoT, and third-party applications for faster decision-making and broader service use. The results include training more than 800 users with plans to reach 1,000 by the end of 2025, over €12 million saved over 15 years from telecom changes and unused services, and a roadmap toward 6,000 video sources by 2027 as Genoa advances its smart city strategy.
