Gateway Technical College reinforces zero tolerance policy with Axis IP cameras

Gateway Technical College, a multi‑campus institution in southeastern Wisconsin, faced student concerns about personal safety after a survey found many did not feel secure on campus. Challenges included poor parking‑lot lighting, limited security patrols, no emergency call boxes and a patchwork of outdated analog surveillance systems, prompting the college to seek a comprehensive solution to deter crime and improve perception.

The college hired integrator Technology Resource Advisors to deploy HDTV Axis IP fixed and PTZ cameras (with Axis encoders for legacy gear), Firetide wireless links and Milestone XProtect VMS, providing local storage, remote access and centralized monitoring from the Kenosha security station. Since implementation, incidents of theft, violence and vandalism have dropped significantly; a stolen laptop was recovered, a suspect was identified and apprehended after rapid video sharing with police, and student surveys now rate security highly—demonstrating both operational improvements and a strong deterrent effect.
