DePaul University, an urban campus in Chicago, was converting dozens of old apartment buildings into student housing and found its DVR-based analog surveillance systems could no longer scale or be managed efficiently. The Public Safety Department needed a centralized recording solution that would run over the campus fiber backbone, preserve the aesthetics of historic buildings, and be installed on a tight 10-week timetable with limited building documentation.

Axis partner Pace Systems installed low-profile Axis fixed-dome network cameras powered by PoE over Cat6 routed through existing wireways, and replaced multiple DVRs with centralized Milestone video management and dedicated storage servers at the Public Safety building. The new system lets dispatchers and senior staff view live feeds and investigate incidents from a single office, maintains a 30-day archive, has already reduced thefts and vandalism, and provides a clear upgrade path to convert remaining analog cameras to IP and expand campus coverage.
