A Milestone Systems Case Study
The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology (DBI) set out to reduce the number of elderly deaths from domestic fires and to detect incidents—like fires starting, falls or abnormal behavior—before they escalate. To do this they built experimental scenes (an apartment and a museum) equipped with cameras, CO2 and temperature sensors to map normal local movement patterns and identify deviations that indicate danger or theft.
DBI deployed Milestone XProtect Corporate to collect and analyze video and sensor data from multiple Axis cameras and other devices. The open, scalable VMS enabled people-counting, flame and CO2/temperature monitoring and motion-pattern analytics that generate social alarms for caretakers; the prototype proved flexible and future‑proof, and DBI continues development with grant funding with the goal of real-world deployment in the coming years.
