A Milestone Systems Case Study
James Cook University’s Daintree Rainforest Observatory needed a non‑intrusive way to monitor an osprey nest perched on a canopy crane without disturbing the birds. The team required cameras that could be mounted in delicate positions, reliable remote viewing and recording, flexible video storage, and a system easy enough for research fellows with no VMS experience to use.
CoastalCOMS installed Sony network and robotic cameras connected via fiber to a server and used Milestone XProtect Essential VMS for recording, remote access and easy image export. The setup enabled close, disturbance‑free observation, produced stunning footage of the ospreys, simplified data access for researchers, and has been extended to additional wildlife studies with plans to offer public live streaming.
