City of Hobart brings safety down under on top

City of Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, needed to replace a scattered, partly nonfunctional camera estate with no centralized management or common storage, making it difficult to access footage and support its Smart and Safe City goals. The council turned to Milestone Systems and its XProtect video management software to help modernize its security and city operations.

Milestone Systems implemented a centralized video platform on a new fiber-backed network, connecting 240 cameras and more than 370 streams with integrations for traffic, city lighting, and license plate recognition. The result was a Safe City Hub with faster searches—around 95% less time to find specific footage—better governance and remote control, plus richer smart-city insights for traffic, events, and urban planning.
