Case Study: Brookfield Zoo achieves scalable, flexible IP video surveillance to protect people and animals with Milestone Systems

A Milestone Systems Case Study

Preview of the Brookfield Zoo Case Study

Chicago's Brookfield ZOO is wild about IP video surveillance for protecting people and animals

Brookfield Zoo, a 216‑acre attraction just outside Chicago that draws about 2 million visitors a year and hires large seasonal staffs, faced challenges with crowd control, parking-lot patrols and covering widespread exhibits. Their aging analog surveillance system couldn’t scale or support planned expansion for special events, mobile cameras and integrated security needs.

They deployed Milestone XProtect Enterprise IP video management on the zoo’s existing fiber backbone, with Sony network cameras and installation by Current Technologies. The IP solution gives flexible, easily moved and wireless camera placement (including mobile exhibit cameras), integration with access control and ticketing, and remote viewing from squad laptops and PDAs—improving officer visibility, speeding incident response and providing a scalable path to phase out analog equipment.
